“Please don’t hang up. If you won’t come up, I’ll come down, so we can talk.”

“There’s nothing to talk about. I’ve made my choice, and you’ve made yours. Goodbye, Sean.”

“Please! Just wait! Give me two minutes!”

She hung up! Unbelievable! She won’t do it. She’s threatened before; more than once even. I’m sure that’s all this is, a threat to get a reaction out of me…again. I didn’t even know she was in town.

Taking the stairs two at a time, I reach the parking lot in time to see her car peel out.

      Damn it!

I sprint to my car and jump in. I’m going after her. I have no choice. The rain’s coming down in sheets. Visibility sucks so bad! I can barely make out her car ahead. She’s flying! I speed up to match her pace. As soon as I get close, she accelerates again.

I try calling her again. No answer. I toss the phone and it tumbles to the floor mat. Dammit!

She’s acting crazy. When I catch her, I won’t dare say that. Adrenaline kicks in. I take it up a notch. I can’t let this happen. It’ll be all my fault.
