Under the light of the Hunter’s Moon!

Tomorrow night the Full Hunter’s Moon will be on brilliant display in the Northern Hemisphere. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac it’s believed this moon phase marks the time for hunters to prepare for winter while the glow of the moon guides the way. Also known as the Sanguine or Blood Moon, the Hunter’s Moon follows the Harvest Moon and the autumnal equinox which marks the beginning of autumn, when red, orange, yellow and rusty hues replace emerald green on the earth’s landscape.

What I’m most excited about this year is that the Hunter’s Moon is in Aries…my sign! Calling on my inner warrior, I’ll be preparing for the changing season this weekend by stocking up on necessary supplies, while simultaneously decluttering, organizing, donating and cleansing my home of the weight of unnecessary possessions. Sound liberating?

For me this journey has already begun. It started in my clothing closet after it occurred to me that getting dressed was beginning to become a chore. Fixing the problem required touching every item, trying on some pieces, and the help of an objective friend. It was work, but it was so worth it! By the end of this task, I had several bags of donations and a good sense of what my wardrobe lacked. I organized my clothing by color for ease of selection and…wait for it…went shopping to fill in the gaps!

To avoid feeling overwhelmed, it helps to start the organizational process with a plan to go room by room, closet by closet, cabinet by cabinet, and drawer by drawer. Clutter seems to possess the cosmic ability to psychically weigh us down. Releasing it is cathartic and the benefits pay dividends.

Organized spaces create a sense of calm. Being able to readily find what we need easily saves both time and energy. Best of all, feeling in control of our environment, helps us to better cope with the challenges of the chaotic outside world!

Thanks for reading and keep writing!

  1. I’m in the declutter mood myself, thank you for giving me nudge to get me started. It’s sort of overwhelming when I think about all that needs to be done. But one closet and one drawer at a time I can manage.
